The iris is the colored part of the eye, with its hue created by variable amounts of brown/black melanins (eumelanin) and red/yellow melanins (pheomelanins) produced by melanocytes in its stroma. A dark pigmentation around cornea and sclera known as limbal ring occurs due to optical properties rather than pigments found within its walls; other causes for its dark hue could include lack of melanin in stroma or blood vessels passing through sclera which gives yellow/green hued effects or blood vessels passing through blood vessels passing through sclera; in extreme cases like cases of oculocutaneous albinism, this will lead to no color whatsoever!
