Gaybeasts in Austin Celebrate Pride This Month

Gaybeasts

Gaybeasts are defined as people who are passionate about gay culture or identify as LGBTQ, such as Austin itself. There are plenty of ways to mark Pride this month; visit the new Pride Museum located at Fifth and Lamar to start out by remembering queer history like fighting HIV/AIDS stigma and more!

Attracting over 29,000 visitors annually, this museum also features a gift shop filled with apparel and home accessories designed exclusively by LGBTQIA+ designers. Shop Tiny Grocer for picnic accessories; find a new feminist read in BookWoman; or bring home something for your furry friend from Paws on Chicon. Admission to both of these attractions is completely free.

Disney’s most infamous gaybeast is LeFou, played by Josh Gad in the live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast. While the film stays true to its source material, director Bill Condon made one alteration that honors AIDS activist Howard Ashman with an appearance.

Warehouse District in downtown Austin offers an abundance of gay bars such as Highland Lounge, Oilcan Harry’s and Rain on 4th. If you’re in the mood for dinner, Arlo Grey at LINE Austin Hotel provides Town Lake views while serving top chef Kristin Kish’s Peeler Ranch Wagyu Ribeye served with bean salad, Texas spinach, spring onion fritter and beef fat aioli as one of its many specialty dishes. Head East Austin for theater productions, dive bars and mezcal bars!
