Sammy Rios is an American singer/songwriter whose music blends jazz, blues and contemporary folk influences such as those by Freddie Mercury, Etta James and Sarah Vaughn. Sammy has performed at clubs and venues all across America – such as Jazz at Lincoln Center – since 2006.

Sam died peacefully at Mountain View Hospital in Las Vegas NV on March 16, 2023 and is survived by his wife Rosie Gonzales of Silver City New Mexico; children Mary Marin (Marini), Lisa Campbell and Anthony Campbell from Las Cruces New Mexico, Lupe Vigil with husband Ryan from Bayard New Mexico, Eddie Lopez as his stepson; fifteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews as well as Claro Gonzales’ family in Hurley New Mexico as well as Tina Pas and Angela Chaves both from Silver City; as well as numerous relatives and friends from around the United States of America.

Appellant was found guilty of possessing a deadly weapon in a penal institution and sentenced to 25 years of incarceration by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice – Institutional Division (“TDCJ-ID”). He appeals both his conviction and punishment; we hold that his conviction and punishment were improper, due to court below failing to allow defense arguments regarding necessity for his actions, thus we affirm.
