Misslexa Jack And Jill

Misslexa Jack And Jill

It can be risky to criticise horror films made on a tight budget; such productions can sometimes surprise us all. But this dreadful little number takes the biscuit: shot on an Arri Alexa used as the primary camera in films such as Melancholia and Drive, Jack and Jill is so cheap and low-budget that it feels like the first take was shot all at once!

Jack and Jill is an unwatchable film with poor writing and acting; its only bright spots being Antonia Whillans’ overdone make-up (a large contributor). Jack and Jill bears all the signs of being assembled quickly to meet some contractual obligation; its double prologue features real twins discussing their shared childhood before transitioning into fake home movies shot with Super 8 cameras that appear like Apatow-esque double prologues; later it moves onto its plot of two siblings who become at odds over work/life decisions/ lifestyle conflicts between Jack and Jill; its plot means little else but this.

The nursery rhyme ‘Jack and Jill Went Up the Hill and Got into a Fight’ refers to an event which took place in Kilmersdon, Somerset where a plaque commemorating Jack and Gill still stands today. Although it was an unfortunate incident that took place, in this film version it has been transformed into laughable sibling conflict comedy pap that doesn’t even remotely merit its title.
